Welcome to 2017, it’s a time of celebration!
Celebrating 50 Years Gone By
The celebrations begin with the 50th Anniversary of Angel Fire, January 19 through the 22nd. There will be music, parties, games, fireworks and much more as we celebrate the early beginnings and growth of our happy little community. From the mid-60s construction…through our struggles…to the popularity of Angel Fire as a year-’round resort destination, the story of our community’s first 50 years is one worthy of celebration.
The history of this place goes back much further than 50 years of course. It includes: the original Native American residents, the arrival of Franciscan Friars, the naming of the area by Kit Carson, the discovery of gold and the lure of Angel Fire as a tourist destination. We invite you to read the entire story of this area by clicking on this Legends of America website.
Celebrating Today
On the last weekend of January, (the 27th through the 29th), our community hosts two fun-filled celebrations:
There’s the Big Ol’ Texas Weekend with a concert, whiskey- and beer-tasting events, a steak-eating contest, and a Texas Hold’em Tournament among the many festivities. It’s a Texas-sized chance for everyone to be a Texan for the weekend.
If you’re a country music fan, you’ll want to set aside room on your calendar for Whiskey and Powder. This is the second year for this kickin’ music festival featuring established and rising stars. As popular as this event was in its inaugural year, Whiskey and Powder may be around for a long time.
We wish you a happy and prosperous New Year and hope to see you on the slopes as well as at the events this January 2017. Cheers to 50 more years!!
